MaxPetZ to Bring 24×7 Multi-Specialty Pet Healthcare to South Kolkata

Kolkata’s pet healthcare landscape is set to get a new multi-specialty addition, with MaxPetZ preparing to open a 24×7 veterinary hospital on Sarat Bose Road in South Kolkata by the end of September 2026.

The upcoming hospital is expected to bring consultations, diagnostics, specialist veterinary care and round-the-clock medical support together under one roof.

For MaxPetZ, which currently operates 17 hospitals across nine cities in India, the Kolkata facility marks an important expansion into the eastern market.

For the city’s pet parents, the opening could mean easier access to specialist veterinary services — including cardiology and other advanced disciplines — without having to depend on multiple clinics for different stages of diagnosis and treatment.

“Excited to open this hospital in Kolkata, hoping to fill the gap for the pets’ welfare in Kolkata.” – Dr. Leena Dalal

The message captures the larger purpose behind the expansion: building a veterinary facility designed not only for routine consultations, but also for pets who require specialist assessment, advanced diagnostics or emergency attention.

Why the Kolkata Expansion Matters

Veterinary care in Indian cities is becoming increasingly specialised.

Pet parents are no longer seeking veterinary help only for vaccinations, minor infections or routine check-ups. Dogs and cats are living longer, chronic conditions are being diagnosed more frequently, and families are increasingly looking for specialist care in areas such as cardiology, orthopaedics, internal medicine, dermatology, ophthalmology and critical care.

That creates a need for hospitals capable of coordinating different parts of a pet’s treatment.

A dog with a suspected heart problem, for example, may need a clinical examination followed by blood tests, imaging and a cardiology consultation.

An injured pet may require emergency stabilisation, radiology, surgery and post-operative monitoring.

When those services are spread across several locations, diagnosis and treatment can become more complicated for both the veterinarian and the pet parent.

The planned MaxPetZ hospital aims to address that by bringing multiple services into a single veterinary setting.

Specialist Care Will Be a Major Focus

One of the key differentiators expected at the Kolkata hospital is access to specialist veterinarians.

Cardiology is expected to be among the major speciality areas available at the facility, alongside a wider range of veterinary disciplines.

MaxPetZ’s existing network describes its clinical model as covering preventive care as well as more complex cases across fields including internal medicine, orthopaedics, surgery, ophthalmology, neurology, oncology and emergency medicine.

The exact speciality roster for the Kolkata branch may evolve as the hospital begins operations, but the stated direction is clear: the facility is being positioned as more than a neighbourhood consultation clinic.

For pet parents, that could be particularly important when a case requires referral beyond general veterinary practice.

What Pet Parents Can Expect Under One Roof

The upcoming hospital is expected to combine several essential areas of veterinary care.

1. General Veterinary Consultations

Routine examinations remain the foundation of pet healthcare.

The hospital is expected to cater to preventive consultations, illness evaluation and follow-up care for dogs, cats and other companion animals.

2. Specialist Veterinary Consultations

The Kolkata facility is expected to provide access to specialists, with cardiology highlighted as one of the important areas of care.

Having specialists within a larger hospital network can also make referrals easier when a general consultation identifies a more complex condition.

3. Diagnostic Support

Recent reporting around the Kolkata expansion indicates that diagnostic services will form an important part of the hospital.

Modern veterinary medicine increasingly relies on imaging, pathology and other investigations to move from symptoms to a more precise diagnosis.

Rather than treating a recurring problem only on its visible signs, diagnostic support can help veterinarians understand the underlying condition and plan treatment accordingly.

4. Emergency and 24×7 Care

Perhaps one of the most significant features for Kolkata pet parents will be round-the-clock access.

Pets do not schedule emergencies around clinic timings.

Road accidents, poisoning, breathing difficulty, seizures, sudden gastrointestinal problems or complications after surgery can require immediate assessment.

A hospital operating 24×7 can provide an important point of access when regular daytime clinics are closed.

5. Coordinated Multi-Specialty Care

Complex cases rarely fit neatly into one speciality.

An older dog may have cardiac disease alongside kidney problems. A trauma patient may need surgery and intensive monitoring. A pet with a tumour may require imaging, pathology, surgery and follow-up care.

A multi-specialty hospital can potentially reduce fragmentation by allowing different clinicians and diagnostic services to work within the same care system.

The Announcement Comes After a South Kolkata Pet Health Camp

The hospital expansion follows a pet health and orthopaedic camp organised in South Kolkata on September 8, where veterinary teams examined animals brought in by local pet parents.

Reports from the camp noted cases involving dental problems and tumour-like growths, with veterinarians recommending further investigations such as advanced imaging where appropriate.

The camp also served as an early introduction between MaxPetZ and Kolkata’s pet-parent community ahead of the hospital launch.

It offered a glimpse into the type of referral-based and diagnostic care the organisation plans to expand in the city.

MaxPetZ Is Expanding an Existing National Network

The Kolkata hospital is not being built as a standalone brand.

According to MaxPetZ’s official website, the network currently operates 17 hospitals across nine cities, supported by more than 50 qualified veterinarians.

Its existing footprint includes hospitals across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow and Mangaluru.

The network also promotes a multi-specialty model combining consultations, diagnostics, surgery, emergency care and other pet-health services.

The addition of Kolkata would extend that model into a major eastern Indian metropolitan market.

If the current network count remains unchanged before launch, the new facility would take MaxPetZ beyond its presently listed 17-hospital footprint.

Why 24×7 Veterinary Access Matters

For many pet parents, one of the most stressful parts of an emergency is not knowing where to go.

A pet may appear healthy in the evening and develop severe symptoms late at night. Some problems can wait until morning. Others cannot.

Veterinary emergencies can include:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Major trauma or road accidents
  • Repeated seizures
  • Suspected poisoning
  • Severe bleeding
  • Collapse or loss of consciousness
  • Acute abdominal swelling
  • Serious post-operative complications

Having a 24×7 facility does not mean every symptom requires an emergency visit.

But it gives pet parents an option when urgent veterinary assessment is genuinely needed outside normal clinic hours.

Kolkata’s Pet Healthcare Needs Are Changing

Kolkata already has a long-established veterinary community, independent clinics, animal hospitals and experienced practitioners.

The arrival of another hospital chain should therefore not be viewed as replacing the city’s existing veterinary ecosystem.

The more useful way to understand the expansion is as an addition to the range of care available.

As pet parenting changes, veterinary expectations change with it.

Families increasingly want preventive healthcare, advanced diagnostics, specialist opinions, emergency support and continuity of medical records.

That creates room for both trusted independent veterinarians and larger referral hospitals.

The two models can also complement one another.

A local veterinarian may manage a pet’s regular healthcare while referring a complicated cardiac, orthopaedic or neurological case to a specialist centre when necessary.

A Focus on Closing the Specialist-Care Gap

The most important test for the new MaxPetZ hospital will not simply be the number of services listed at launch.

It will be whether those services translate into accessible, coordinated and reliable veterinary care for Kolkata’s pets.

Specialist infrastructure matters when it shortens the journey from symptom to diagnosis.

Round-the-clock access matters when a genuine emergency occurs.

Advanced diagnostics matter when they help clinicians make better treatment decisions.

And having multiple disciplines available matters when a complicated patient requires more than one veterinary perspective.

That is the gap MaxPetZ says it hopes to address.

What Happens Next

The new MaxPetZ Kolkata veterinary hospital is expected to open on Sarat Bose Road by the end of September 2026.

As launch approaches, further details around the hospital’s specialist team, appointment system, diagnostic facilities and complete service roster are expected to become clearer.

For Kolkata’s growing community of pet parents, however, the central development is already significant.

A national veterinary network is preparing to bring its 24×7, multi-specialty model to the city for the first time.

And if the hospital delivers on its stated goal, the opening could give pet parents another option when their animal needs care that goes beyond a routine consultation.
