Bajaj General Insurance Limited has launched My Family Complete, a new health insurance product that allows pet dogs and cats to be covered alongside human family members under one integrated insurance framework.
Announced on August 26, 2026, the product marks a notable shift in how insurers are responding to changing family structures in India. Rather than treating pet insurance as a completely separate purchase, My Family Complete brings eligible pets into the broader family health plan.
The insurer describes the product as India’s first family health insurance policy to extend the definition of an insured family member to include pet dogs and cats.
One policy framework for people and pets
My Family Complete is designed to cover adults aged 18 years and above, dependent children from three months to 30 years, and pet dogs and cats from three months of age. For pets, the insurer has not specified an upper entry-age limit.
Customers can choose sum insured options ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹5 crore, while policy tenure can extend for up to five years.
For human members, the plan includes familiar health insurance benefits such as in-patient hospitalisation, pre- and post-hospitalisation expenses, domiciliary treatment, modern treatment procedures, ambulance services and AYUSH hospitalisation.
The policy also provides hospitalisation and surgery-related protection for insured pets, creating a single insurance structure that addresses healthcare needs across the household.
Pet-focused benefits go beyond veterinary hospitalisation
A key part of the product is the inclusion of benefits built specifically around situations pet parents may face.
If an insured pet is lost or stolen, the policy can reimburse eligible advertising and reward expenses incurred while trying to locate the animal. It also provides an emergency pet accommodation benefit when the pet parent is hospitalised and unable to care for the pet.
Customers can additionally opt for pet third-party liability protection, which is designed to cover certain legal liabilities arising from bodily injury, death or property damage caused by the insured pet.
Other optional benefits include air ambulance coverage, long-term care support for chronic pet conditions, extended pet stay and Paw Promise, which provides financial support towards adopting another pet following the death or loss of an insured animal.

‘Bundle of Joy’ extends the family concept further
Among the more unusual features is the Bundle of Joy benefit. The optional cover provides a fixed payout on the birth of a child or a litter of pets, reinforcing the product’s broader positioning around treating pets as members of the household.
Other optional features available under the plan include global hospitalisation cover, enhanced protection for major illness and accidents, a double sum insured benefit, consumables cover and other customisable add-ons.
The combination gives customers flexibility to build a policy around their household rather than relying on identical protection for every insured member.
Insurance responds to changing pet-parent behaviour
The launch comes as Indian households increasingly spend on veterinary treatment, preventive healthcare, nutrition and other services for companion animals.
Bajaj General Insurance Managing Director and CEO Dr. Tapan Singhel said the thinking behind the policy reflects the growing role pets play in modern families. According to the company, healthcare expenses for pets are increasingly becoming part of overall household healthcare planning.
That change is important for India’s wider pet-care industry. While standalone pet insurance products already exist, integrating pets into a family health plan could help make insurance more familiar to pet parents who already purchase medical cover for themselves and their dependants.
A new direction for pet insurance in India
My Family Complete does not mean every veterinary or pet-related expense will automatically be covered. Benefits, limits, optional riders, waiting periods and exclusions remain subject to the policy terms selected by customers.
However, the launch introduces a different model for the Indian insurance market: one in which dogs and cats can sit within the same broader healthcare framework as their human families.
As pet parenting becomes more humanised and healthcare spending rises, Bajaj General’s latest product could also encourage other insurers to rethink how pet healthcare protection is packaged and offered in India.
