India’s pet care industry is evolving at an unprecedented pace. As more families embrace pets as lifelong companions rather than just animals, demand for premium nutrition, healthcare, grooming, and lifestyle products has surged across the country. From celebrating pet birthdays to investing in insurance and specialized diets, today’s pet parents are more conscious than ever about their companions’ well-being.
This rapid growth has also led to an explosion of pet startups offering innovative products and services. However, amid the crowded marketplace, one question continues to concern many pet parents: How many products are truly backed by science, and how many rely primarily on marketing?
For Hyderabad-based startup Doggystyle, that very question became the foundation of its business.
An Unexpected Idea That Changed Direction
The company’s journey didn’t begin with pet food.
Founder Sudeep Kathuri, who previously worked in marketing and branding, originally wanted to build a platform that helped pet owners find ethical breeding partners for their dogs. While researching the industry, he discovered that the pet ecosystem in India was highly fragmented, with trust playing a central role in every purchase and service.
That realization completely reshaped the founders’ vision.
Instead of launching a breeding-focused business, Sudeep and his co-founders—Abhinav, Neha, and Akshith—decided to build credibility through something every dog requires every single day: nutritious food.
According to Sudeep, the team understood that pet parents would only trust them with sensitive services like breeding after first earning confidence through products that directly impact their pets’ health.
Building a Product Instead of Buying One
Rather than entering the market with ready-made white-label products, the founders spent months travelling across India searching for manufacturing partners willing to develop completely original recipes.
Their goal was simple—create products specifically designed around canine nutrition instead of repackaging existing formulations.
The startup also invested heavily in packaging innovation. Instead of conventional pet food packs, Doggystyle introduced circular retort pouches placed inside reusable paper tubes, which can also serve as convenient travel feeding bowls for pet parents on the move.
The design reflects the company’s focus on combining functionality with sustainability.
Clinical Testing Before Commercial Launch
One of Doggystyle’s biggest differentiators is its emphasis on scientific validation.
The startup collaborated with Hyderabad’s All Pets Clinic and veterinarian Dr. Jasleen Kaur to clinically evaluate every formulation before bringing it to market.
The 60-day study involved 30 dogs representing small, medium, and large breeds. Throughout the trial, veterinary experts monitored multiple health indicators including digestion, stool quality, body weight, energy levels, kidney function, blood parameters, and coat condition.
The founders believe this research-first approach helps ensure the food delivers measurable health benefits instead of relying solely on marketing claims.
Nutrition Tailored to Different Dog Sizes
Another feature that sets Doggystyle apart is its approach to nutritional formulation.
Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all recipe, the startup develops meals according to breed size, believing that nutritional requirements differ beyond simple body weight calculations.
The company says this allows pet parents to provide more personalized nutrition based on the specific needs of their dogs.
Bootstrapped Growth Driven by Community
Doggystyle officially launched in June 2026 as a completely bootstrapped startup.
Its current product portfolio includes fresh dog food, treats, accessories, and branded merchandise, all sold through its direct-to-consumer platform.
Despite being a relatively new entrant, the company has already seen encouraging early traction. Its first marketing campaign generated more than 40,000 organic views and 3,000 shares, with much of its initial growth coming through customer recommendations and word-of-mouth rather than paid advertising.
A Bigger Vision Beyond Pet Food
For the founders, fresh nutrition is only the beginning.
Their long-term ambition is to transform Doggystyle into a comprehensive pet care ecosystem offering services across every stage of a pet’s life. Future plans include grooming, veterinary care, ethical breeding support, boarding facilities, daycare services, and even compassionate end-of-life care.
As India’s pet economy continues to expand, startups that combine scientific research, transparency, and trust-building may be well-positioned to shape the next chapter of the industry.
For Doggystyle, the mission extends far beyond selling pet food—it’s about creating a complete ecosystem designed around healthier, happier lives for dogs and greater confidence for the families who care for them.
