It Started With One Dog, Not a Business Plan

Most founder stories begin with a market gap someone spotted and decided to fill. This one didn’t start that way at all. It started with a dog named Vanilla, and a 24-year-old who simply wanted to feed her something better.

She wasn’t from a business family. She had no industry playbook to follow, no formal training in pet nutrition, manufacturing, or ingredient sourcing. What she had was a fierce love for her dog and a question that wouldn’t leave her alone: what if pets could eat food as fresh, honest, and carefully made as the meals we cook for the people we love?

That question became Fresh For Paws. Eight years later, she doesn’t describe it as building a company. She describes it as growing up alongside one.

A Young Woman Building in an Industry With No Blueprint

There’s something worth sitting with here that often gets glossed over in founder narratives: a young woman, barely into her twenties, choosing to build inside an industry that, at the time, barely existed in any recognisable form in India. Fresh pet food wasn’t a category people understood yet. Most conversations about pet food began and ended with “which brand should I buy,” not “what’s actually in it.”

Starting a company is hard enough. Starting one as a young woman with no industry pedigree, in a category the market hadn’t yet learned to ask questions about, meant she wasn’t just building a product. She was building the vocabulary an entire industry would eventually use to talk about pet nutrition, ingredient transparency, and what pets actually deserve to be fed.

She’s been candid about the self-doubt that came with that position. Moments of wondering whether she was too young, whether her instincts could be trusted, whether something meaningful could actually be built in a space still finding its footing. Every founder faces versions of that doubt. Fewer are doing it while simultaneously helping define what an entire category looks like in their country for the first time.

Watching India Fall in Love With Its Pets, Differently

What she describes witnessing over these eight years goes well beyond ingredient lists and manufacturing lines. It’s a genuine cultural shift in how Indian families relate to their animals.

Pets who once slept outside now sleep beside their families. Birthdays get celebrated. Vacations get planned around them. The language itself has changed, from “it’s just a dog” to “she’s my daughter,” “he’s my son,” or simply, “my baby.” Pet parents today read ingredient labels, ask about protein sources and gut health, consult nutritionists before switching foods, and want to understand not just what they’re feeding, but why.

She doesn’t take credit for that shift. But she has clearly been both a witness to it and a quiet architect of it, spending countless hours in the company’s early years simply explaining why fresh food matters, why proper nutrition isn’t a marketing buzzword, and why convenience shouldn’t come at the cost of quality. Not every one of those conversations turned into a sale. Every single one of them, she says, moved the industry forward anyway.

The Weight of Feeding Something That Can’t Say Thank You, or Tell You You’re Wrong

Ask her the hardest part of building Fresh For Paws, and the answer isn’t operations, manufacturing, or competition. It’s something quieter and heavier: knowing that every decision she makes affects a living being who has no way of telling her whether she got it right.

That’s a distinctly different kind of pressure than most founders carry. It’s not about quarterly numbers or investor decks. It’s about obsessing over details most customers will never notice, because “good enough” isn’t good enough when someone’s best friend is depending on the outcome.

She describes trust, not food, as the actual product she’s spent eight years building. Pet parents aren’t just buying a meal when they choose her brand. They’re handing over the care of someone who waits at the door every evening, who curls up beside them after a hard day, who loves them without any conditions attached. Carrying that kind of responsibility, day after day, for eight years, is its own quiet form of endurance.

The Moments That Keep a Founder Going

Every founder needs something to hold onto during the hard stretches. For her, it’s been the small, specific moments: a notoriously fussy eater finishing an entire bowl for the first time. A senior dog suddenly excited about mealtime again. A rescued animal beginning a healthier chapter of life. A pet parent’s message that simply says thank you.

She says these moments never become routine, no matter how many times they happen. Each one is a reminder that behind every bowl of food sits a family hoping for a few more healthy years with the companion they love. It’s a strikingly emotional way to talk about pet food manufacturing, and it’s exactly what sets founder-led, mission-driven brands apart from purely commercial ones.

She’ll tell you she notices wagging tails before she notices people, that she stops to greet dogs on the street without thinking about it. Every new recipe isn’t just a product in development to her, it’s an imagined Labrador, a picky Shih Tzu, an energetic Indie, or a gentle senior Golden Retriever, actually enjoying that specific meal.

A Bigger Dream: An Indian Brand the World Trusts

What makes her story genuinely compelling isn’t just where Fresh For Paws has been, it’s where she believes India’s pet nutrition industry is headed, and the role she wants an Indian-born brand to play in getting there.

She believes the next decade of pet care won’t just be about selling more products. It’ll be about preventive healthcare, functional nutrition, science-backed formulation, and real transparency, helping pets live longer, healthier lives rather than simply feeding them.

And she believes this is India’s moment to lead that conversation, not follow it. The country already has exceptional veterinarians, skilled nutritionists, and world-class manufacturing capability. Her dream was never simply to build a successful company. It was to build a global brand that happens to be born in India, one that pet parents anywhere in the world would immediately associate with quality and trust, the same way they might any established international name today.

For her, success was never really about exporting products. It’s about exporting Indian excellence, and proving that world-class pet nutrition doesn’t have to originate somewhere else.

The Purpose That Hasn’t Changed, Even as the Dream Has Grown

At 24, all she wanted was to make better food for one dog who had changed her life. Eight years later, sitting at the helm of a brand that’s helped shape how an entire generation of Indian pet parents thinks about nutrition, that purpose hasn’t moved an inch. Only the scale of the dream has grown.

She’s not just running a pet food company anymore. She’s part of a broader shift in how India cares for its animals, and she’s chasing something bigger still: an Indian pet nutrition brand standing confidently on the global stage. If that journey ends up making pets healthier, pet parenting more informed, and India a little prouder on the world stage along the way, she’s said she’ll consider it the greatest achievement of all, bigger, even, than the business itself.
