A break-in at a small-town Oklahoma veterinary hospital that left owners fearing the worst has ended with all three stolen dogs safely back home.

What Happened at the ClinicHow the Dogs Were FoundAn Investigation That’s Still OpenWhy This Story Resonates Beyond Duncan

The Duncan Police Department confirmed that all three dogs taken during a burglary at Minson’s Veterinary Hospital near West Main Street have been located and reunited with their owners, closing out one of the more unsettling chapters in what has already been a tense few days for the clinic and the community.

What Happened at the Clinic

Police say the burglary took place sometime between the evening of July 30 and the morning of July 31. Officers responded to an alarm and a report of a possible burglary in progress at the business, located near Highway 81 and Main Street.

The list of items taken during the break-in went well beyond just the animals. Along with three small dogs, the burglars made off with a mini fridge, several bags of dog food, leashes, flea-and-tick chewables, possibly some vaccines, heartworm medication, a computer used for animal dental X-rays, and two pet cremations — a detail that made the theft feel especially cruel to families who had already lost a pet.

In response, Dr. Minson offered a $1,000 reward for each missing dog, hoping the incentive would help speed up their recovery.

How the Dogs Were Found

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered damage to the property and immediately began searching the surrounding area. During that search, police encountered two juvenile suspects, who left the area when officers made contact.

Investigators were able to identify the individuals involved and continued building the case from there. That work paid off: officers eventually recovered stolen property connected to the burglary, along with all three of the missing dogs, and successfully reunited them with their owners.

The two juvenile suspects have since been taken into custody by police.

An Investigation That’s Still Open

While the recovery of the dogs marks a major relief for the affected families, the case itself isn’t fully closed. Detectives say the investigation remains ongoing as they continue working to identify any additional victims and recover the remaining stolen property, including the veterinary equipment, medications, and other items still missing from the clinic.

Why This Story Resonates Beyond Duncan

Break-ins at veterinary clinics are relatively rare, but when they happen, the stakes go well beyond typical property theft. Animals in a clinic’s care — whether boarding, recovering, or simply staying overnight — are entirely dependent on the facility’s security and the swift response of local authorities if something goes wrong.

For Minson’s Veterinary Hospital and the pet owners whose dogs were taken, the quick identification of suspects and safe recovery of all three animals is the best possible outcome in an otherwise alarming situation. As the investigation continues, the case also serves as a reminder for veterinary facilities everywhere about the value of strong security measures, especially for clinics that keep animals, medications, and valuable equipment on-site overnight.
