Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting has officially entered India’s pet food market with the launch of Snuggles, a new pet nutrition brand marking the company’s first major move into the category since it entered the broader foods business. The launch, timed to coincide with International Dog Day in late August 2026, positions Wipro as the latest major consumer goods player betting on India’s rapidly evolving relationship with pet ownership.
For a company best known for personal care and lighting products, the move into pet nutrition reflects a calculated read on where Indian consumer spending is headed, and Wipro isn’t approaching the category quietly.
What Makes Snuggles’ Debut Product Different
Snuggles has entered the market with what the company describes as India’s first-of-its-kind dry dog food format: a combination of traditional kibble with actual freeze-dried chicken chunks folded directly in. According to Wipro, this specific combination, dry kibble paired with freeze-dried protein pieces, hasn’t previously been introduced by any brand within India’s packaged pet food category.
Speaking to Business Standard, Anil Chugh, President of Foods Business and Chief Operating Officer–New Business at Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting–India, laid out the thinking behind the format directly. “If you bring in an innovation in the category and also bring in the right price point where consumer sees a value, you always have a winning proposition,” he said, describing the freeze-dried chicken and human-grade ingredient combination as a genuinely new offering for the Indian market, paired with pricing the company believes consumers will see as strong value.

The Nutrition Science Behind the Formula
Beyond the novel format itself, Snuggles has been built around a fairly comprehensive nutritional positioning, developed, according to the company, with support from qualified veterinarians and using human-grade ingredients throughout.
The formulation’s key callouts include high protein content aimed at supporting muscle development, along with DHA and Vitamin A specifically included for brain and eye development, particularly relevant for growing puppies. The range also incorporates prebiotics and postbiotics intended to support digestive health, alongside Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids sourced from salmon oil, aimed at supporting skin and coat condition.
The Initial Product Lineup
Snuggles has launched with three life-stage and breed-specific variants covering the core segments of the dry dog food category: Puppy All Breeds, Adult Small Breed, and Adult Medium & Large Breed. This structure allows the brand to address differing nutritional needs across a dog’s life stage and size category right from launch, rather than starting with a single, generalized formula.
Products are available across four pack sizes, 1 kg, 3 kg, 5 kg, and 10 kg, with pricing starting at ₹530, an entry point the company has positioned specifically to make the format’s premium ingredients accessible to a broader base of Indian pet parents rather than a narrow luxury segment alone.
Why Wipro Sees Real Opportunity in Pet Food
The scale of ambition behind Snuggles becomes clearer when you look at the market data Wipro itself is citing. The company is targeting India’s pet food market, currently estimated at more than ₹5,500 crore, a sizeable and rapidly growing category. Yet despite that scale, packaged pet food adoption in India remains strikingly low: only about 7% of Indian pet parents currently purchase packaged pet food for their animals, according to figures Chugh shared with Business Standard.
That low penetration rate, paired with a large addressable market, is precisely the combination that makes the category attractive to a company like Wipro. As Chugh put it, “There is enough room to come into the category to grow the category,” a framing that treats Snuggles’ launch less as competing for existing packaged pet food customers, and more as an opportunity to convert Indian pet owners who haven’t yet made the shift from homemade or loose food to packaged nutrition at all.
Chugh also pointed to strong historical category growth as part of the investment case, noting the segment grew at 16 to 18% during the Covid period and, in his assessment, still holds the potential to grow at 10 to 12% annually over the next five years.

Who Wipro Is Actually Targeting
Central to Snuggles’ positioning is a specific demographic insight: first-time pet owners now make up 67% of pet parents in India, according to figures cited in the brand’s launch materials. That statistic reflects a broader generational shift already well underway across Indian pet ownership, where a new, often younger and more urban cohort of pet parents is approaching pet care with expectations shaped by humanised, premium standards, rather than treating pet food as a purely functional, low-consideration purchase.
Dr. Saurabh Shekhar, Managing Partner – Pet Care at Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting–India, framed this shift as central to the brand’s opportunity. “The pet food category holds tremendous potential and remains significantly underpenetrated despite the dramatic shift taking place in pet parenting,” he said, adding that Snuggles’ team had built a product combining “science-backed nutrition, human-grade ingredients and a unique kibble-plus-freeze-dried chicken format” specifically to meet that shift.
Where Snuggles Will Actually Be Sold
Wipro is taking a genuinely broad distribution approach for the launch, making Snuggles available across specialty pet retail stores, veterinary clinics, modern trade retail, e-commerce platforms, and quick-commerce channels. That kind of multi-channel rollout leans directly on what the company describes as Wipro’s extensive existing distribution network, infrastructure built over years across its other consumer categories, now being extended into pet nutrition.
Not Wipro’s First Move Into Pet Care
Snuggles’ launch doesn’t represent Wipro’s first engagement with India’s pet care sector. The brand builds directly on the company’s earlier strategic venture investment in Goofy Tails, a Delhi-based pet care startup, a move that signalled Wipro’s broader interest in the category well before this direct product launch. Taken together, the Goofy Tails investment and the Snuggles launch point to a deliberate, multi-pronged strategy from Wipro to build a meaningful, lasting presence across India’s pet care and wellness landscape, rather than a single, isolated product bet.
What This Launch Signals for India’s Pet Food Category
Wipro’s entry into pet food carries significance well beyond its own business ambitions. When a major, diversified consumer goods company with Wipro’s distribution scale and brand-building resources decides to commit meaningfully to pet nutrition, it’s a strong signal of where the broader Indian FMCG sector sees genuine long-term growth potential.
With packaged pet food penetration still sitting at just 7% nationally, and a large, expanding base of first-time pet owners actively seeking higher-quality, more humanised products for their pets, Snuggles enters a market with substantial room to grow, not just for Wipro, but potentially reshaping expectations across the broader category as more established consumer brands follow a similar path into India’s fast-evolving pet care economy.
