For most pet owners in India, a trip to the movies has always meant leaving their dog behind, cinema halls simply aren’t built with pets in mind, and that’s rarely ever questioned. So when a special screening broke from that norm entirely, welcoming dogs directly into a theatre alongside their families, it wasn’t just a fun promotional stunt. It was a genuinely rare moment for India’s pet-owning community.

The occasion was a special pre-release screening for the upcoming Gujarati film Asambhauuu, a title that playfully leans into the word “asambhav,” meaning impossible, a fitting bit of wordplay given that the event itself managed to make something typically considered impossible in Indian cinemas happen with ease.

The Film Behind the Occasion

Asambhauuu, releasing in cinemas on September 4, 2026, centres its story on the extraordinary bond between a family and their pet dog, built around themes of love, compassion, and the kind of deep companionship that so many pet owners will find instantly familiar. Given that premise, hosting a pet-friendly screening wasn’t just a clever marketing choice, it was a natural extension of the film’s own heart.

The film is produced under Jannock Films, led by producers Anand Pandit and Vaishal Shah, and directed by Parth Trivedi. Its cast includes Raunaq Kamdar, Mitra Gadhvi, Tatsat Munshi, and Shivani Bhardwaj, several of whom were present at the special screening alongside the film’s director.

A Moment Worth Celebrating, Shared by the Team Itself

The special screening moment was shared publicly by Khyati Shah, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in bringing the event together. The tone of the post reflected genuine appreciation rather than pure promotion, a recognition that pulling off a pet-friendly cinema experience in India, even for a single special screening, required real coordination and goodwill from multiple partners.

Cast and crew members, including Raunaq Kamdar, Mitra Gadhvi, Tatsat Munshi, Shivani Bhardwaj, and director Parth Trivedi, were tagged and present as part of the celebration, turning the screening into as much of a team milestone as a promotional event for the film itself.

The Pet Brands That Made It Happen

Behind any successful pet-inclusive event lies genuine logistical and brand support, and this screening was no exception. Two pet-focused brands played a central role in making the event work: PAOW WOW and Pannkh Designer Pet Wear, a boutique pet fashion and accessories store.

Their involvement speaks to a broader trend gaining quiet momentum within India’s pet industry: brands increasingly looking for meaningful, experience-driven ways to engage with pet parents, beyond just product sales. A pet-friendly cinema screening tied to a film that centres the human-dog bond offered exactly that kind of natural, non-forced brand association, one where the partnership felt like a genuine extension of the film’s message rather than an unrelated sponsorship layered on top.

Why Pet-Friendly Cinema Events Remain So Rare in India

Globally, dog-friendly cinema screenings have slowly gained traction over the past several years, from UK theatre chains hosting regular pooch-inclusive screenings to similar pet-friendly events popping up across the US and parts of Europe. In India, however, this kind of event remains genuinely uncommon, largely due to a combination of theatre policy restrictions, hygiene considerations, and simply the absence of established precedent.

That’s exactly what makes this particular screening notable. Rather than treating pet inclusion as an afterthought, the event built the experience directly around a film whose entire emotional core revolves around a dog, creating a rare instance where the promotional format and the film’s message reinforced each other perfectly.

A Small Screening With a Bigger Signal

Beyond generating buzz ahead of the film’s theatrical release, this event offers a small but meaningful signal about where pet culture in urban India may be heading. As more Indian households welcome dogs and cats as genuine family members, rather than purely outdoor or utility animals, the spaces and experiences built around pet ownership are gradually starting to expand too, from pet cafes and pet-friendly retail spaces to, now, at least one memorable evening at the movies.

For Asambhauuu, the screening offered a fitting, on-brand way to build anticipation ahead of its September 4 release. For India’s broader pet-owning community, it offered something a little rarer: a reminder that a night out with a beloved dog by your side doesn’t have to remain, well, asambhav.
