A house in Dhangar Mahella, Adilabad, looked like nothing unusual from the outside. It took a trained nose, not a search warrant alone, to find what was hidden inside.

Roma, a specially trained narcotics sniffer dog attached to the Adilabad district police, led officers straight to four packets containing 15 grams of ganja concealed inside a residence belonging to Sheikh Wajid, son of Sheikh Madar. The find, made under the jurisdiction of Adilabad One Town Police Station, resulted in the immediate seizure of the contraband and a case registered against the accused.

A Targeted Operation, Not a Routine Check

This wasn’t a random sweep. The search was carried out as part of Adilabad district police’s intensified anti-narcotics drive, a district-wide push aimed squarely at cutting off the sale, transport, and consumption of narcotic substances in the region.

Once inside the house, it was Roma’s alert the tell-tale signal trained sniffer dogs give when they detect a scent match that pointed officers directly to where the ganja had been hidden. Without that alert, a routine physical search might easily have come up empty.

Directions From the Top

The operation traces back to a specific directive from Adilabad Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan, who has instructed officers across the district to step up enforcement against narcotics activity. Police say operations like this one, combining trained personnel with narcotics detection dogs, are now being run on a regular basis as part of that broader crackdown.

CCS Inspector Chandrasekhar, who was involved in the case, used the moment to issue a direct warning to young people in the district: stay away from drugs entirely, and expect firm legal consequences for anyone caught selling, transporting, or using narcotic substances.

Why Dogs Like Roma Matter So Much in Cases Like This

Cases like this one make a strong argument for exactly why police forces across India continue investing in specially trained canine units. Concealed contraband — tucked into a wall cavity, hidden in furniture, or stashed somewhere a manual search might overlook — is precisely the kind of find that a dog’s sense of smell can locate in seconds, where a team of officers searching by sight alone might take much longer, or miss it entirely.

That’s especially true in residential searches like this one, where evidence needs to be found quickly, accurately, and without unnecessarily disrupting a household during the process.

Part of a Bigger Effort

Adilabad district has seen a steady stream of anti-ganja operations in recent months, reflecting the region’s ongoing challenge with cannabis cultivation in its more remote, interior areas. Alongside canine-assisted searches like this one, police have continued running targeted raids based on tip-offs and intelligence, part of a sustained effort to choke off supply lines before contraband reaches wider circulation.

The operation that led to Roma’s latest find was carried out by CCS personnel working alongside the dog’s handler, Ramesh, and additional police staff a coordinated team effort where the dog’s role was central to actually locating the hidden stash.

Police Ask the Public to Stay Involved

Beyond enforcement, Adilabad police are also leaning on the community for help. Citizens with information about drug-related activity in their area have been urged to report it directly, either by calling Dial 100 or sending details via WhatsApp to the district’s dedicated tip line.

For a district actively working to curb its cannabis problem, cases like Roma’s latest bust are a reminder of how much a well-trained working dog can contribute to enforcement efforts that go well beyond what human officers can accomplish on their own.
