When we met Dr Saurabh Shekhar, Managing Partner – Pet Care at Wipro Consumer Care & Lighting India, last week, he spoke about where Snuggles goes next. On 4 November: Pune, the brand’s third Indian market, after Hyderabad and Jaipur. Snuggles pet food launched in August. Three cities in under three months is a deliberate pace, and the company has been explicit that it intends to keep expanding one market at a time.

What Dr Saurabh Shekhar said
In the company’s announcement, Dr Saurabh Shekhar framed Pune as a step in a sequence rather than a national push:
“Pune is an important next step as we expand Snuggles to more pet parents across India. With pet parents increasingly seeking high-quality, nutrition-led choices, we see significant potential for the brand in this market. Our vision is to make Snuggles a trusted companion in the pet-parenting journey, offering thoughtfully crafted nutrition that meets the evolving needs of pets and their families. As we expand, we will continue to build the brand thoughtfully, learning from consumers and growing market by market.”
“Market by market” is the operative phrase, and it stands out in a category where the usual instinct is a national launch backed by heavy spend. Wipro has the distribution to go wide quickly: its consumer care business reported revenues of ₹10,800 crore in FY25-26 and sits within the US$2.9 billion Wipro Enterprises group. It has chosen not to.
Why Snuggles pet food is launching in Pune
The company’s case for the city rests on four points. These are Wipro’s figures, not independently audited ones.
| Metropolitan population | Approximately 73 lakh |
| Estimated pet population | More than 3 lakh |
| Growth rate | Around 13% annually |
| Retail ecosystem | An established network of pet stores, veterinary clinics offering specialist care, and an engaged pet-parent community |
Wipro also points to an affluent consumer base and strong adoption of e-commerce and quick-commerce platforms in the city. The second matters more than it sounds. Quick commerce has become a genuine route to market for pet food in Indian metros, and a 1 kg pack at ₹530 is exactly the kind of basket a ten-minute delivery platform moves well.
What is in Snuggles dog food
Snuggles is a dry dog food that combines conventional kibble with freeze-dried chicken chunks in the same pack, a format the company describes as a first of its kind in India. The ingredients are described as human-grade.
| Component | Stated purpose |
|---|---|
| Premium protein | Muscle development |
| DHA and Vitamin A | Brain and eye development |
| Prebiotics and postbiotics | Digestive health |
| Omega 3 and 6, with salmon oil | Skin and coat condition |
Wipro says the range was developed with a team of qualified veterinarians and evaluated across what it calls world-class innovation facilities and across diverse Indian geographies, for nutrition, palatability and quality.
These are the company’s claims as published. PNN has not independently tested the product or reviewed the underlying formulation data. Readers should treat the nutritional positioning as manufacturer information rather than verified analysis, as with any brand launch.

Snuggles pet food price and pack sizes in Pune and India
According to the company, the premium range will be available in 1 kg, 3 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg pack sizes, starting at ₹530, “delivering best-in-class nutrition at exceptional value.”
The positioning is explicit: a premium formulation at a price the company describes as competitive for Indian consumers. That is a harder balance than it reads. Freeze-dried inclusions carry real cost, and holding a sub-₹600 entry price while using them is a pricing decision as much as a product one.
Distribution will run through specialty pet retail stores, veterinary clinics, modern trade, e-commerce and quick commerce.
The market Snuggles is entering
India’s pet food market has been estimated at over ₹5,500 crore, and it is being reshaped by who is buying rather than simply by how many are buying. The figure Wipro leads with is the telling one: 67% of pet parents in India are first-time pet owners.
That single statistic explains much of what is happening in this category. A first-time pet parent has no established brand loyalty, no inherited feeding habit, and far more willingness to be guided by a veterinarian, a pet store owner, or a label that explains what DHA is for. It is why premium entrants can take share quickly here in a way they cannot in mature markets, and why veterinary clinics appear in Snuggles’ distribution list alongside quick commerce.
Wipro entered the category in August 2026, saying its ambition was to make Snuggles the most loved pet food brand in India. What to make of it
The strategy on display is unusual for an FMCG company of this size, and it is the most interesting thing about the Pune announcement.
Wipro could have launched Snuggles everywhere in August and used its existing distribution muscle to reach every modern trade outlet in the country within a quarter. Instead it has gone Hyderabad, then Jaipur, then Pune: three cities with different incomes, different retail structures and different pet-owning cultures.
Read alongside Dr Saurabh Shekhar’s “learning from consumers and growing market by market”, that looks less like caution and more like a company treating pet food as a category it still needs to learn, rather than one it can simply distribute into.
For Pune’s pet parents, the immediate change is narrower: one more premium dry food option on the shelf and on the app, at a starting price of ₹530, in four pack sizes, with a format that is not currently common in the Indian market.
